Assegnato il Book Prize 2025
La monografia Skew Braces, di A. Ballester-Bolinches, M. Ferrara, V. Pérez-Calabuig e M. Trombetti ha vinto l’UMI Book Prize 2025.
L’Unione Matematica Italiana (UMI) ha istituito un Premio (UMI Book Prize), sponsorizzato da Springer-Verlag, per riconoscere un’eccellente monografia originale e inedita in qualsiasi ambito della matematica, con possibile pubblicazione nella collana Springer UMI Lecture Notes in Mathematics (UMI LNiM).
Per la quinta edizione, l’Ufficio di Presidenza dell’UMI, dopo aver consultato il Comitato Premi e la Commissione Scientifica, ha nominato una Commissione giudicatrice composta dai seguenti professori: Marco Andreatta (Presidente dell’UMI), Piermarco Cannarsa, Přemysl Jedlička, Mercede Maj, Corinna Ulcigrai.
La Commissione giudicatrice si è riunita il 27 agosto 2026, alle ore 17:00, online tramite Zoom e, dopo un’analisi accurata e approfondita delle due monografie presentate, è giunta alla seguente conclusione. La Commissione giudicatrice, all’unanimità dei suoi componenti, ha deciso di assegnare il UMI Book Prize, edizione 2025, alla monografia Skew Braces, di A. Ballester-Bolinches, M. Ferrara, V. Pérez-Calabuig e M. Trombetti. Di seguito la citazione ufficiale.
The project addresses a relatively young and rapidly developing area for which the relevant material is still dispersed across the research literature; it has a convincing purpose and the potential to fill a genuine gap as both an introductory text and a reference work. The organization is one of the principal strengths of the volume. The exposition progresses coherently from the necessary group-theoretic and Yang–Baxter background to the structural theory of skew braces and then to more specialized developments, computational methods, and open problems. This progression gives the manuscript a recognizable unity rather than the appearance of a collection of unrelated research results. The inclusion of detailed examples, exercises, computational material, an index, a list of acronyms, and an extensive bibliography further enhance its usefulness. The treatment also appears well connected with current research and conveys the vitality of the subject.
