Special Session 4

Algebraic Geometry towards Commutative Algebra, Combinatorics and Applications

Organizers:

  • Gioia Failla (“Mediterranea” University of Reggio Calabria, Italy),
  • Elena Guardo (University of Catania, Italy),
  • Zaqueu Alves Ramos (Federal University of Sergipe, Brazil)

MSC codes: 14M05

Description: This special session aims to bring together experts and young researchers to discuss central topics in Algebraic Geometry and its interactions with Commutative Algebra and Combinatorics. We focus on new trends in the geometry of curves and in the study of configurations in projective spaces, and on sharing methods, ideas and results related to topics such as the weak and strong Lefschetz properties, projective varieties and toric ideals, and algebraic invariants. Beyond these themes, it would like to show the growing relevance of algorithm and structural approaches within Commutative Algebra to problems in geometry, combinatorics and applications in different fields such computer science or biology. These tools have become essential for exploring the complexity of projective varieties, studying syzygies, and understanding the interplay between geometric intuition and discrete structures. In selecting speakers, we have tried to create a list of participants that has a Brazilian, Italian or European nationality, with research collaboration in common also with the organizers, and that is a diverse as possible in terms of gender and academic rank.
