Abstract:
The round table will discuss the interaction between mathematical and biomedical worlds, their evolution in the last few years and what to expect in the near future with the advancement of quantitative tools. In particular, which contribution the medical doctors wish to receive by mathematicians, how AI and HPC tools might change the interaction between the scientific communities, whether the concept of digital twin is actually realistic and how far we are from realistic digital twin, how to bridge the gap between mathematical rigor and clinical trust and to fill the gap when not all data are available or even measurable, what are the primary bottlenecks in translating in silico models from academic proof-of-concept into clinical practice.

Abstract:
The round table will discuss the interaction between mathematical modeling, physical theory, and climate science, exploring how multidisciplinary approaches are redefining our understanding and prediction of a changing climate. In particular, the discussion will address the complementary roles of theoretical mathematical models, comprehensive numerical Earth-system simulations, and data assimilation, how quantitative and computational tools help us anticipate climate dynamics across different continents—with a focus on the Mediterranean region and South American tropical dynamics—the connection between diverse spatial and temporal scales, and how interdisciplinary collaboration across continents can tackle key uncertainties in predicting extreme climate events.
