Recent advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly through Machine Learning, have enabled systems to address complex tasks such as image recognition, strategy development, natural language understanding and generation, medical diagnosis, autonomous driving, personalized recommendation systems, real-time translation, and predictive analytics in various domains. These achievements underscore the transformative potential of AI across diverse fields, driven by innovative algorithms and mathematical modeling. Mathematics lies at the heart of these breakthroughs, providing essential models, methods, and solutions across its traditional domains to tackle the theoretical, numerical, and practical challenges posed by AI.

Recognizing the pivotal role of mathematics in this transformative field, Bollettino dell’Unione Matematica Italiana (BUMI) is pleased to announce a special Thematic Collection on “Mathematics for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.” This initiative aligns with the journal’s mission to publish original research and high-quality survey articles in all fields of mathematics, fostering the exchange of ideas and advancing knowledge.

The Thematic Collection aims to feature contributions that showcase the intersection of mathematics and AI, spanning topics such as:

● Theoretical advancements in machine learning algorithms

● Mathematical modeling and optimization in AI systems

● Mathematical modeling of neural networks

● Logic, symbolic systems and strong AI models

● Probabilistic and statistical methods for data-driven AI applications
