The biennial Council of European Mathematical Society meeting was held in Berlin at Humboldt University on 16 and 17 July 2016 (see the group photo). During this meeting the colleague and UMI member prof. Nicola Fusco, of the “Federico II” University of Naples, has been elected as a member of the European Mathematical Society
Executive Commitee (in the photo prof. Fusco during the meeting together with the UMI Vice-President prof. Vittorio Coti Zelati).
Nicola Fusco’s candidacy had been proposed by the three Italian Mathematical Society accredited to the European Mathematical Society (AMASES, SIMAI and UMI).
We are certain that Nicola Fusco, as a member of the European Mathematical Society Executive Committee, will do an excellent job. We offer him the warmest congratulations and we wish him every success in the new demanding task he he is going to undertake.
Here a short statement from Nicola Fusco, issued immediately after his election.
On the occasion of my election at the Executive Committee I wish first of all to thank AMASES, INdAM, SIMAI and UMI for the support to my candidacy. It will be four years of hard work and I would as of now urge colleagues, in particular from the Italian mathematical community, to give their suggestions and advice.
